InterSpan
was founded in 1999 by a group of language professors from northern
California who believe that the best way to learn a foreign language is
to provide the student with an immersion environment. The faculty
consist of professors from the United States, México, Latin America,
Spain, Italy, and France.
InterSpan
founders, Mario L. D'Onofrio, Ph.D., and Ana María de Barling, Ed.D.,
with a wealth of educational experience, have structured language
programs that capture the essence of the best programs they have
experienced.
InterSpan
offers formal and informal cultural studies as an integral component of
the academic experience. Students become immersed in the culture by
living with a host family and participating in community activities.
Community projects are offered to the students who want to become more
involved.
InterSpan
provides a relaxed academic environment. Classes are held outdoors
surrounded by tropical flowers, trees, and birds. All students are
expected to respect the cultural norms of the country and values set by
the Institute.
